We Digitize Archival Collections
Such Media offers digital scanning and archiving services for many different collection types. We work with photos, slides, documents, film, video, audio and many other formats.
We will assess your collection and offer the best suggestions for organizing, storage and preservation. We then offer choices as to the file types available to best serve your needs. We offer options for the easy retrieval of this digital information as well as Digital Albums with a visual thumbnail reference to the collection.
Some of our projects have included volume slide scans for: Academia - Associations - Individuals - Libraries - Museums - Public and private industry.
The slides on this page are a few of the over 22,000 slides and photos we scanned for the RMS Titanic archival collection. The images were from various expeditions to the site used in accessing the condition of the ship and debris field. The digital images are used for educational and scientific purposes. The slide and photos were returned to the archives in archival safe storage boxes along with the digital assets on data DVDs and external hard drives with contact sheets and excel spreadsheets denoting any geological information from the original image.

What is an Archives?
An archives is a collection of historical records, as well as the place they are located. Archives contain primary source documents that have accumulated over the course of an individual or organization's lifetime.
In general, archives consist of records that have been selected for permanent or long-term preservation on grounds of their enduring cultural, historical, or evidentiary value. Archival records are normally unpublished and almost always unique, unlike books or magazines for which many identical copies exist. This means that archives (the places) are quite distinct from libraries with regard to their functions and organization, although archival collections can often be found within library buildings.
A person who works in archives is called an archivist. The study and practice of organizing, preserving, and providing access to information and materials in archives is called archival science.
Archivists tend to prefer the term "archives" as the correct terminology to serve as both the singular and plural, since "archive," as a noun or a verb, has acquired meanings related to computer science.
What is a Digital Archive?
A digital archive is simply the electronic or digital file representation of the original item. If the original archive item is a photo the digital archive would be a tiff or a jpeg file. The same is true with slides, though a very different technique in colleting the electronic file is used. Oftentimes in art collections and especially now with so much information being accessed on the internet, a digital image of the original item can also be considered a digital archive file of the actual collection.
Professional Scanning Services
Knowing the end purpose for your slide project will help us provide you with the best images possible.
Slides scanned for print are processed very differently than slides scanned for web or video use.
The samples below are a good example of how the same images can look so very different when using professional scanning settings, techniques and know how.
